The goal of the Observational Hazard Weekly is more than just opinion piece. I want to have open and friendly discussions on anything that matters from burning hot topics, religion, politics, conspiracy theories, law, ancient culture and history, space, comedy and pranks, crazy stories..

Basically as I said anything and everything.

Your feedback is welcome. In fact, it’s mandatory because your opinion matters and I want you to share it as much as you do!

But there are a few rules…

Well, just one actually: Be friendly, be courteous and respectful of others, and absolutely no insulting and flaming people.

I want this to be a fun environment to explore and discuss ideas and even get silly. Deal?

Observational Hazard Issue #1 - Swearing, Famine, Warfare, The Environment

So earlier today a friend of mine posted this image, which I thought was interesting but I wanted to offer my own perspective. Just tell me if you agree.

Quote:
We live in a culture where people are more offended by “swear” words and middle fingers than they are by famine, warfare, and the destruction of our environment.

First of all, do you really think that’s true?

Because when I think about what’s offensive it usually is caused by another person doing something offensive, like swearing or sticking up their middle finger at me.

So I replied with this…

Swearing, poverty, war, and people destroying have existed for thousands of years. Always have, and probably always will. The question isn’t measure of offense.

The question is strength of will.

We work towards peace, we fight poverty with charity, we even campaign against the destruction of the earth… but the mouth?

If a person speaks from the heart and mind, and the words that come out are vile and repulsive, what does it say of that person?

How can a man who lacks the will to control his own body, ever hope to have the will to fight poverty, war and destruction?

Maybe the reason the latter three exist and continue to exist is because people don’t even have the will to control themselves.

So what’s your take on this? What do you think?
