About my really weird day yesterday...
Have you ever have a weird day? I don’t mean like one thing happen that’s out of the ordinary. I mean as in all day things were just weird. That was my day yesterday.

Fair warning… I’m going to open up a bit and talk about some of the things that happened so if you’re a person that doesn’t like drama this may not be for you, on the other hand, for those that know me I don’t do drama – which is why this was such a weird day.

About my really weird day yesterday…

So I’m doing my thing… I’m putting out marketing, writing my blog posts, doing some development work… ordinary day. Then I get a call in the morning from Capital Bank (I don’t have an account with them by the way) and the lady I was speaking to asked for me by name. I said “speaking” and she starts talking my check disputes.

I replied “wait.. what dispute? I don’t even bank with you guys,” and right before she hung up I said, “wait. Is this about ______ ?” – Out of respect I’m not mentioning any names here. A former client who took 6 months (almost 7) to actually pay me, after all of the post dated and voided checks and stuff finally sent me two checks and I deposited them.

This guy, started hounding me every day almost relentlessly and basically talking to me like dirt, bossing me around and other stuff really made it hard to work so I when I had enough of it I decided that it’s probably best if I just give him his money back, take down whatever work I’d done, then call it a day. Nobody needs that headache right?

The moment I said that he’d call and and text, some days more than once asking for his money – just hounding me. Well apparently he decided he couldn’t wait so he filed a fraud claim with the bank and they were calling me to investigate because (and this is what I was told) “the information he provided them doesn’t make sense.”

So I gave the bank investigator proof of work and services (graphic work, marketing reports, development, copies of the checks, and so on) and the decision was that I’m in the clear and the checks weren’t fraud.

I’ll admit, I was really upset that after 7 months of work and him stringing me along with promises of pay that he’d pay me, that he’s be so low as to file a fraud claim knowing that a refund was coming, so I did what I should have done in the first place, accept the money for work that was done over 7 months and terminate the job because he really didn’t keep up with his end and on top of that he didn’t actually pay me for all of the time that was spent.

So I let him know that and that snowballed into a whole entire thing and I ended up having to block him from email and phone and social networks just because he’s that kind of guy who’d go mess up everything you’re doing to be spiteful, not to mention the obscenities that came out of his mouth, (right about the time he talked about letting God handle it) – you do NOT want to know my thoughts there. haha!

Anyway, THAT was how my day started…

My Really Weird Day Continues…

So while all that is was going on, I’m still working and doing my thing, but at this point I was sharing my posts. If you’ve ready any of my posts you’ll know that I’m all about helping others, especially if they’re in business like I am.

I share my own experiences, things I’ve overcome, new things I’m learning, even some random things that catch my attention and are… well? kinda cool! and you’ll notice I don’t do a lot of “sales pitching” – I’ll have a blurb for people who may be interested at the end of the article and that’s about it.

Most of the time I spend writing it focused on making sure what I put out is useful because I really dislike putting out re-hashed “placebo” information – that’s the information you find in searches that makes you think you’re getting something valuable and it does absolutely nothing, like a placebo.

It’s relevant information, but it’s just there to take up space and make someone look good, but doesn’t have any useful purpose = placebo.

Anyway, I shared my post in a marketing group. The post was about some of my experiences in marketing, the types of people I run into, mindsets that they bring with them and basically a run down of how I deal with certain mindsets and specifically how to deal with “weak” leads like resumes. You can read it here (opens in a new window).

It is kind of deep coaching stuff but it’s there to help anyone in business who markets to job seekers and finds that they are weak leads and don’t get conversions and so on. I think the insight will help them, especially considering that at a certain level people have to either be on my team working with me or pay for consulting in order to have access to it.

We all know haters will be haters, but this guy (again, not mentioning any names) found me of all people to pick on, and he just shredded my post in a reply that was just your typical negative ad campaign, then he sent me this really nasty email (I won’t re-share it), so I went back to the group and re-posted. haha!

Anyway, I did some digging and I think I figured out why a marketer, who’s in a marketing group, would be offended by someone – you know… marketing, when he’s there to market himself… this “guy” has an MBA, Marketing degree from the University of Technology in Sydney and his entire work history is consulting.

I bet it really burned him to the core that I was publishing information to help people for free that he probably charges people for, so he picked some ad on the site that’s about Empower Network and trashed them to make me look bad. I mean everybody in a marketing group is marketing something right? Whether it’s a product or service or they’re active building PR… whatever. They’re marketing something, even themselves.

So that was the next weird thing that happened yesterday..

I actually won’t give any more examples as I think you get the idea, but all day yesterday stuff like this kept happening and I wanted to say it was a bad day, but when I really thought about it, it wasn’t a bad day, it was just a weird day.

Some of you will get this, some of you won’t and that’s okay, I just want to put it out there for people to consider.

This year has been a crossroads for me and all of the things in my past has led me up to everything that’s happening this year, and the past few weeks especially has really been life changing for me. And as I reflected back early this morning (I went to bed about 4:15 am after hanging out with a friend) I realized something.

I could go back to past things that I through were bad things and see, where when I pushed through it there was a measurable amount of good that immediately followed, and those moments where I failed and got caught up in the drama of they day, delayed what I was working towards.

This is why yesterday was just weird and not a bad day. Yes I got angry and had to make some tough decisions, but I pushed through it and moved forward, which actually shows just how much I’ve grown up mentally. It’s as if I’ve been in a process of being conditioned for something greater and today it was amazing.

As I said, haters will be haters and people will jump up to stop your momentum but today, it didn’t. It actually helped take my momentum to the next level! I received more positive comments and thank you’s from people my blog posts have helped, my traffic has increased, and I’ve reached a point where, when people attack me for whatever their purpose, it backfires and creates momentum instead of destroying it.

And I think that’s really cool.

So no matter what you’re going through, no matter how odd or bad it may seem, maybe… just maybe, there is a reason for it, and just by not giving up and pushing through, there is a blessing on the other side of it. Food for thought!
